What do you really do at work?

I provide organizational support to the four programs of focus in the Children’s Eye Foundation of AAPOS. Stop Infant Blindness in Africa, Vision Through Music, All Children See and Global Education & Training

Her Story:

Before joining the AAPOS family, Maria Carmen was a Special Education teacher for 10 years in New York City and in Nyack, NY. She also has nonprofit experience rooted in programs centered on youth leadership. She’s experienced in nonprofit management with a focus on culturally responsive community engagement and restorative practices. Much of her work in both fields has been in program development and execution, launching new initiatives, and facilitating organizational growth.

Maria Carmen is a happily married mother of 3 teenagers, with a passion for travel, hiking, and outdoor adventures. She is also a proud member of a championship wallyball team. She received a BA in Political Science and Women’s Studies from Binghamton University, and a MSeD in Special Education from The City College of New York.
