Nik Allen
About Nik

Nik was raised on Minnesota’s Iron Range and is a graduate of The College of Saint Scholastica, where the shores of Lake Superior shaped her early perspective. While her career began in sales, Nik quickly discovered her true calling in mission-driven, change-making work, a path further solidified by the resilience she gained through fighting cancer twice. Currently pursuing a Master’s in Strategic Communication to amplify her impact, Nik balances her professional life by staying rooted. Whether she is maintaining the Gertrude Elizabeth Allen Nature Preserve, tackling DIY projects on the farm, or exploring local filmmaking, she finds her greatest inspiration in the quiet strength of the woods and the steady rhythm of a life built on purpose.

What do you really do for work?

I’m the strategic pilot for ASOT and PRESTO. My day-to-day involves steering the ship through financial planning, governance, and high-level negotiations. Think of me as the bridge between big-picture visions and the operational “nuts and bolts” that make associations thrive.

Describe your perfect day

My perfect day starts with a quiet coffee on my farm before the emails start rolling in. I head straight into the woods with my 160 lb dog, Django, enjoying the peace of the trails and perhaps a detour through Sax-Zim Bog to see what’s nesting. By afternoon, I’m back home and off the clock. I spend a few hours working with my hands—tending to the farm and then settling into a fiber art project with some hand-dyed wool. Maybe I’ll wind down by sampling a few snacks from my latest international subscription box while the dogs lounge nearby.

What's your superpower?

My superpower is building authentic connections.

What's your life motto?

People are watching anyhow, put on a good show.

What inspires you?

I am inspired by the quiet strength found in renewal, whether it’s the way a forest regenerates after a long winter or the unwavering resilience of women who lead through advocacy and community care. I find purpose in the balance between protecting our natural world and championing the voices that make our social structures more compassionate and sustainable. For me, true inspiration comes from seeing how deep roots provide the stability needed to grow through any challenge.
